Lives and works in Punta del Este, Uruguay

Martín Pelenur (1977, Buenos Aires, Argentina) is a Uruguayan artist who lives and works in Punta del Este. Pelenur defines himself as a visual artist for whom painting is a form of thinking and an experimental practice. He is interested in the method to create from the means, and in the last years, in particular, he has been working with dry industrial materials such as paper tape. From it he builds geometric patterns obtained based on equations he has meticulously developed. His methods of creation are immersed in various aesthetic traditions, they make up their own time: pure, simple, with a sense of shapes and structures, lines and planes in an effort to provide his work with personal and political significance.

Pelenur's works have been exhibited in Uruguay, Argentina, Berlin and the United States, in institutions such as Museum of Contemporary Art of Buenos Aires, Art Nexus Foundation in Bogotá, The Figari Museum in Montevideo, Artemisa Gallery in New York and Sayago & Pardon Foundation in Los Angeles. He has received numerous awards: Project Bitácora from the Ministry of Culture and Education of Uruguay (2015), FEFCA Scholarship from the Ministry of Culture and Education of Uruguay (2012), Paul Cézanne Prize at the French Alliance in Montevideo (2011), and Goethe Institut Scholarship in Berlin (2010).
